Karen Bezuidenhout is a Santa Barbara-based, South African-born artist featured in Stick & Ball's curated art collection. Raised on a farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa, her passion for painting was sparked in 1996 after attending a local art exhibition, which led her to train at Pieter Vermaak's art school, housed in an old wine cellar. In 2000, she moved with her family to Santa Barbara, where she met influential painter Bill Woolway, and her work is now collected in homes across the United States and worldwide.

Karen's work is shaped by her global travels and a lifelong love of horses — she has ridden on horseback across the Namib Desert, the mountains of Patagonia and Italy, and the ancient landscapes of Spain and South Africa. In her own words, she paints from the heart and follows her brush, describing her paintings as tapestries of her life and imagination.

Karen paints intuitively, and her work has been described as "primitive yet sophisticated" and "peaceful, healing and medicinal." Her pieces — mainly in acrylic and oil stick — are created in her rustic outdoor studio, surrounded by dogs and music.
